Derivative of hydroquinone it is a natural active substance present in the leaves of Bearberry or Arctosaphylos Uva-Ursi.
Widespread in Japan and the rest of Asia, this plant is used to whiten the skin, reduce pregnancy spots, melasma and marks left by sunburns, as well as to regulate the synthesis of melanin.
Chemically it is a natural hydroquinone glucoside, defined as hydroquinone-D-glucopyranoside.
In the process of melanin synthesis, it inhibits the tyrosinase enzyme, competing with DOPA at its receptor site.
It also has good antioxidant properties, helping to reduce the amount of free radicals generated by UV rays.
It is stable in a pH range between 3.5 and 6.6.
