The extract of this flower is characterized by a high content of flavonoids, anthocyanins (which give it its blue color) and pectins. These are natural polysaccharides sobstances, which are able to retain a high quantity of water. They form a protective film on the skin that maintains hydration. To this moisturizing action are added the soothing and decongestant ones of flavonoids and anthocyanin. Thanks to these properties, Cornflower extracts are widely used in the ophthalmic field for decongesting and anti-redness preparations for eyelids and eye contour areas.
